Nigeria Mission (September 2020)
Yakuba Barka and his family fled on foot when the Boko Haram terrorist group attacked his community in northeastern Nigeria. His hometown is Chibok, the same town in Borno State where more than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by the terrorist group in April 2014.
Barka, his wife and their four children spent two years walking from one place to another, doing whatever they could to live from hand to mouth. Their trudge ended at a place that is operated by the government for internally displaced people. They have lived in the camp for the past four years. An estimated 7,000 people, primarily women and children, are living in one of the ten camps.
The United Methodist Church in Nigeria is providing ministry to them. “People are displaced here; they need comfort,” Barka said through an interpreter. “People are receiving food, clothes, and encouragement,” he said.
Please donate new or like-new clothes for the internally displaced in Nigeria. Make a monetary donation to Lodi United Methodist Church to sponsor the shipment ($100 for one box). And, please pray for the men, women, and children who had to flee their home, and for God’s blessing on our Nigeria Mission.
Rev. Ande Emmanuel, Administrative Assistant to the bishop Nigeria Episcopal Area, with gratitude, sent us a note: “No matter how small it is, it will change someone’s life here. Now that there is intense hunger and poverty among these people. This will be so helpful.”
