Advent 1, November 28, 8&10AM. Worship Online/In-Person

There is one life-changing promise we celebrate every Christmas: God’s promise of a Savior.
Join us this Christmas season. We look at four of the first people to see this incredible promise fulfilled.

Come and worship – online or in-person.
Let’s discover a God who keeps His promises. The promises gives us hope, peace, joy, and love.

Both of our 8&10AM services continue to be livestreamed https://www.facebook.com/LodiUMC

PRELUDE

ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING          Bill & Peggy Falkenstein (8AM), Dennis & Robin Crow (10AM)

OPENING PRAYER
Pastor: People of faith, prepare for the coming reign of Christ!

People: As we gather to pray and sing and listen,
a spirit of anticipation and hope fills us.

Pastor: The days are surely coming, says Our God,
when justice and righteousness will prevail.

People: May our worship illuminate our hearts and minds,
freeing us to respond joyfully to God’s call in the days to come.
We turn from our false gods to you, Holy One,
the true source of our salvation, our Home and our Refuge. Amen.

* HYMN OF ADVENT     Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus (United Methodist Hymn #196)
1 Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.
2 Born thy people to deliver, born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever, now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit, raise us to thy glorious throne.

PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST
Anticipating the blessings of the One who is coming, let us offer one another signs of Christ’s peace:
The peace of Christ be with you, always. And also with you.

* PRAYER FOR OUR OFFERINGS
Giver of all good things, as we offer these gifts to you,
open our eyes to see more clearly all that we have been given and all that we have to give.
Stretch our capacity to give of ourselves: our love, our companionship, and our material resources,
wherever they are needed for the embodiment of your love. Amen.

MESSAGE    The Promise (1) – Simeon’s Hope

SONG OF FAITH    Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me
1 What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh how strange and divine, I can sing, “All is mine” Yet not I, but through Christ in me

2 The night is dark but I am not forsaken For by my side, the Saviour He will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing For in my need, His power is displayed
To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me Through the deepest valley He will lead
Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome Yet not I, but through Christ in me

3 No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon And He was raised to overthrow the grave
To this I hold, my sin has been defeated Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing, “I am free” Yet not I, but through Christ in me

4 With every breath I long to follow Jesus For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day I know He will renew me Until I stand with joy before the throne
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat Yet not I, but through Christ in me

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus. All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat Yet not I, but through Christ in me x2
Yet not I, but through Christ in me x2
