CALL TO WORSHIP
We are called to bring a new understanding of God: that God so loves the world.
We are the salt of the earth.
We are called to bring a new hope in God: that God gives us new life.
We are the light of the world.
We are called to follow the commandments and the law.
The Law of God is to love God and to love one another.
Come, let us be the salt of the earth, the light of the world.
Come, let us love one another with the love of God.
Let us join together, in our love of God, to worship and follow Jesus.
HYMN OF ADORATION Gather Us In (The Faith We Sing # 2236)
1 Here in this place new light is streaming, now is the darkness vanished away,
See in this space our fears and our dreamings, brought here to you in the light of this day.
Gather us in, the lost and forsaken. Gather us in, the blind and the lame.
Call to us now and we shall awaken. We shall arise at the sound of our name.
2 We are the young, our lives are a myst’ry, we are the old who yearn for your face,
We have been sung throughout all of hist’ry, called to be light to the whole hu-man race.
Gather us in, the rich and the haughty. Gather us in, the proud and the strong.
Give us a heart so meek and so lowly. Give us the courage to enter the song
3 Here we will take the wine and the water, here we will take the bread of new birth,
Here you shall call your sons and your daughters, call us anew to be salt for the earth.
Give us to drink the wine of compassion. Give us to eat the bread that is you.
Nourish us well and teach us to fashion lives that are holy and hearts that are true.
4 Not in the dark of buildings confining, not in some heaven light years away, but
here in this place the new light is shining, now is the kingdom, now is the day.
Gather us in and hold us forever. Gather us in and make us your own.
Gather us in, all peoples together, fire- of love in our flesh and our bones.

PRAYER FOR GRADUATES AND THE YOUNG
All: God of our beginnings, we thank you for the gifts of these graduates; their excitement, their awesome wonder and curiosity, their heart and mind open to face the future unafraid but with faith in you and in their family.
Person 1. Bringing in a lamp of light: May they be the light from which a message of love, hope, joy, peace, and justice radiates.
May they be the beacon leading to You those who seek truth.
Person 2. Bringing in a salt container: May they be the salt that takes away the flatness and complacency in the routine of living
and that prevents the rottenness of hatred and greed from expanding around them.
Person 3. Bringing in a loaf of bread: May they, like the leaven, mixed with the talents of their old and new friends,
lift this world out of its insipid mediocrity and enrich the diversity of Your creation.
Person 4. Bringing in a clear bowl of water: May they be a well of hope to their thirsting neighbors, an oasis of opportunity to all they encounter, and a river of delight to the downhearted and downtrodden.
Person 5. Bringing in a Bible: May they, inspired with the teachings of Scripture, bless our society with discomfort at injustice and oppression and transform the world, not with the love of power, but with the power of love.
All: We ask this blessing upon each of them, in the name of God of Love, God of Life, Amen.
TIME OF DEDICATION This is our commitment to following Jesus and an expression of our faith and thanksgiving. Thank you for living your faith by sharing your gifts with God’s world through your church. Online Giving: www.LodiUMC.org/Give
Doxology (United Methodist Hymn #94)
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below:
Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts!
Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Prayer of Dedication
We give thanks to you, O God. We are thankful for your steadfast love. Worship is a time to offer praise and glory to you. We praise you by singing; we praise you through prayer; we praise you in service. This offering is a worshipful moment of praise – an intentional opportunity to practice hospitable generosity. We pray that these gifts may help our church fulfill its purpose. Even more, we pray that you invite us to use our talents in humble ways to help our church fulfill its purpose. Amen.
SPECIAL MUSIC This Light of Mine by Beanie and Kira Ludlum
SCRIPTURE READING Matthew 5:13-20
“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
