Sunday Worship. June 13, 8&10AM. Online/In-Person

This Sunday we take a fresh look at the familiar words of the beatitudes “Blessed are…” and dive into the depth and riches of Jesus’ words. It’ll also give us a time to reflect on the true meaning of being happy and successful.

The Sacrament of Baptism will enrich our time of worship at the 10 o’clock service.
Your sanctuary is open for your participation in corporate worship at 8 & 10AM in a safe environment.
Between the two service, sprays a disinfectant registered on the EPA List N for use against COVID-19 virus.

Both services continue to be livestreamed https://www.facebook.com/LodiUMC
and are available on FM 103.5 channel at the locations within a half mile away from the church.

OPENING LITANY
Happy are we
when our treasures cannot be quantified.
Happy are we
when our knowledge is tempered by mystery.
Happy are we
when our pain is held in the balm of love.
Happy are we
when our delight comes from beyond ourselves.
Happy are we when we worship together, serving one another and serving our God of All.

HYMN OF ADORATION    ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus (United Methodist Hymn #462)
1 ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise, and to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”
Refrain Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
2 O how sweet to trust in Jesus, just to trust his cleansing blood;
and in simple faith to plunge me neath the healing, cleansing flood! Refrain
3 Yes, ‘tis sweet to trust in Jesus, just from sin and self to cease;
just from Jesus simply taking life and rest, and joy and peace. Refrain
4 I’m so glad I learned to trust thee, precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that thou art with me, wilt be with me to the end. Refrain

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below:
Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts!
Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Prayer of Dedication
Loving God, we rejoice that our lives are already consecrated by you. Inspired by the knowledge of your love and blessing, we give thanks for the gifts you offer us each day and we pray that these offerings and our lives may further your reign on earth. Amen.

CONFESSION OF FAITH   (8AM)
Blessed are you who make room at your table
for in that way all, even sinners, shall be welcomed.
Blessed are you who seek out lost sheep
for your seeking you find more than a lamb
Blessed are you who touch the leper
for you make a home for the excluded
Blessed are you who welcome the prodigal
for you express the fullness of the love that is God
Blessed are you who make friends with your enemy
for you know the way to lasting peace
Blessed are you who turn the other cheek
for you show more strength than the oppressor
Blessed are you who break bread with the stranger
you will have a foretaste of the kingdom
Blessed are you who work to heal and serve on the Sabbath
you will reveal what is important to God
Blessed are you who seek company with the outcast and unclean
for you shall be accompanying Jesus
Blessed are you who overturn the tables
you are the freedom fighters of love
Blessed are you who love your neighbor
for you already live in the realm of God
Blessed are the silenced
for you hear the cry of God
Blessed are you who carry a cross
for you shall see God’s wisdom
Blessed are you who wait for the morning
for you shall see the renewal of life.

Prayer Song for Illumination  Wonderful Words of Life (UMH #600 st 1)
Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life;
let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life;
words of life and beauty teach me faith and duty.
* Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life. (repeat)

SCRIPTURE READING   Matthew 5:2-12
Then [Jesus] began to speak, and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.”
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
