Sunday Worship. Mar 21. Lent 5. Online & In-Person

It is with my best diligence and care that we open our pews for your in-person attendance at both services. Our commitment to safe gathering doesn’t diminish. Between the 8 and 10 services, added is to spray a safe disinfectant registered on the EPA List N for use against Covid-19.

Of course, we can worship anywhere and anytime. However, corporate worship in a space that is set aside for such sacred gatherings leads each of us to a deeper experience of God’s presence
as it helps us make room for the Spirit to speak into our hearts and transform our lives.

Both 8 and 10AM services continue to be livestreamed https://www.facebook.com/LodiUMC
and are available on FM 103.5 channel in the church parking lot, perhaps all the city of Lodi.

Please observe Sunday as the day of worship wherever you are.

Order of Worship
March 21, 2021

OPENING LITANY OF PRAISE
We are branches, rooted in the vine of Christ.
We come because we seek to abide in Christ.
The branches that remain in the vine bear much fruit.
We come because we long to be spiritually vibrant, alive, productive.
If we abide in Christ, then Christ’s words will abide in us.
We come because we strive to be faithful disciples.
We gather for worship now to the glory of the One God: Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer.
May we grow wildly as God tends us lovingly.

HYMN OF ADORATION      Raise a Hallelujah
I raise a hallelujah in the presence of my enemies. I raise a hallelujah louder than the unbelief.
I raise a hallelujah; my weapon is a melody. I raise a hallelujah; Heaven comes to fight for me.

Chorus I’m gonna sing in the middle of the storm. Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar.
Up from the ashes hope will arise. Death is defeated; the King is alive.

I raise a hallelujah with everything inside of me. I raise a hallelujah: I will watch the darkness flee.
I raise a hallelujah in the middle of the mystery. I raise a hallelujah; Fear, you lost your hold on me. Repeat Chorus

Psalm 34 Taste and See.
I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from every fear.
Those who look on Him are radiant. They’ll never be ashamed, they’ll never be ashamed.

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard me and saved me from my enemies.
The Son of God surrounds His saints. He will deliver them, He will deliver them.

Chorus Magnify the Lord with me. Come exalt His name together (exalt His name).
Glorify the Lord with me. Come exalt His name forever.

O taste and see that the Lord is good. O blessed is he who hides in Him. O fear the Lord, O all you saints.
He’ll give you everything, He’ll give you everything. Repeat Chorus

O taste and see that the Lord is good. O blessed is he who hides in Him. O fear the Lord, O all you saints.
He’ll give you everything, He’ll give you everything.

TIME OF PRAYER
Sharing Joys and Concerns   Please share your prayer requests and joys. Type them in the comment section.

Prayer of the People
One: When we feel isolated, we can remember that Jesus said, All: “I am the True Vine; abide in me.”
One: When we feel powerless, we can find strength in remembering that Jesus said,
All: “I am the True Vine; abide in me.”
One: When we are tempted to try to go it alone, we can reach out to other believers, remembering that Jesus said, All: “I am the True Vine; abide in me.”
One: When life becomes so busy that time with God seems impossible to find, we can regain our focus by remembering that Jesus said, All: “I am the True Vine; abide in me.”
One: When we stress about the quality of the fruit we are or are not producing, we can relax and trust the source of our life and growth, the One who said, All: “I am the True Vine; abide in me.” Amen.

TIME OF DEDICATION   Thank you for sharing your gifts with God’s world through your church.
Thank you, Lord, for tending us, especially in difficult times. You’ve been faithful in providing through your people and your Church what we need in order to grow and thrive as disciples of Jesus. May these offerings and our lives bear much fruit and bring glory to you. Amen.

MUSICAL OFFERING     You Are the Vine, We Are the Branches   by Praise Team (8AM)
Draw Me Close. I Am Thine.   by Sue Stanley-Mortellaro (10AM)

SCRIPTURE READING    John 15:1-8
[Jesus said,] “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. If you don’t remain in me, you will be like a branch that is thrown out and dries up. Those branches are gathered up, thrown into a fire, and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified when you produce much fruit and in this way prove that you are my disciples.

REFLECTION    Lenten Series: I AM (5). “I Am the True Vine”

SONG OF COMMITMENT      Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me
1 What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer. There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy my righteousness and freedom. My steadfast love my deep and boundless peace
To this I hold my hope is only Jesus for my life is wholly bound to his
Oh how strange and divine I can sing all is mine. Yet not I but through Christ in me

2 The night is dark but I am not forsaken for by my side the Savior he will stay
I labor on in weakness and rejoicing for in my need his power is displayed
To this I hold my Shepherd will defend me through the deepest valley he will lead
Oh the night has been won and I shall overcome. Yet not I but through Christ in me

3 No fate I dread I know I am forgiven. The future sure the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon, and he was raised to overthrow the grave
To this I hold my sin has been defeated. Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released I can sing I am free. Yet not I but through Christ in me

4 With every breath I long to follow Jesus for he has said that he will bring me home
And day by day I know he will renew me until I stand with joy before the throne
To this I hold my hope is only Jesus. All the glory evermore to him
When the race is complete still my lips shall repeat. Yet not I but through Christ in me (Repeat)
