Sunday Worship. Feb 28. Online & In-Person

I invite you, in the name of the Church, to observe a holy Lent:
by self–examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self–denial;
and by reading and meditating on God’s Holy Word.
from “Invitation to the Observance of Lenten Discipline”, Book of Worship.

Our sanctuary is open for your participation in corporate worship in a safe environment.
If you plan to attend in person, please make sure you answer our questions found at our website

Both 8 and 10AM services will be livestreamed
and will be available on FM 103.5 channel in the church parking lot, perhaps all the city of Lodi.

Please observe Sunday as the day of worship wherever you are.

Order of Worship
February 28, 2021

The Lord is my light and my salvation.
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life.
Of whom shall I be afraid?
Come together and wait for the Lord.
We wait in hope.
Be strong and let your heart take courage,
for God’s steadfast love lifts our hearts.

Our light, our salvation,
Into the shadows of our isolation, you speak words of life and community.
Inspire our worship this day, so that we may find light and receive liberation in your word,
and share your healing redemption for the broken places of our lives
and your reconciling love throughout the earth. We pray in Jesus’ name.

HYMN OF ADORATION   Christ Is the World’s Light (United Methodist Hymnal # 188 )
1. Christ is the world’s light, Christ and none other;
born in our darkness, he became our brother.
If we have seen him, we have seen the Father: Glory to God on high!

2. Christ is the world’s peace, Christ and none other;
no one can serve him and despise another.
Who else unites us, one in God the Father? Glory to God on high!

3. Christ is the world’s life, Christ and none other;
sold once for silver, murdered here, our brother;
he, who redeems us, reigns with God the Father: Glory to God on high!

Prayer of the People
Lord, when we look around us and feel that only darkness and emptiness surround us, illuminate our hearts with Jesus’ words, “I am the Light of the World.”
When we look for You in the places of pain and suffering, pleading for that holy presence to be made evident even in the gloomiest of places, help us to see You at work through Jesus’ promise, “I am the Light of the World.”
When we feel far away from You, even when we try to create that distance ourselves, remind us that Your love is always touching us through Jesus’ words, “I am the Light of the World.”
When we can’t figure out where to go next, what to do, or who to be, help us to hear Your call and see the path illuminated for us by the one who says, “I am the Light of the World.”
When we wonder how we will go out into the world and shine God’s light, sharing God’s love with all the earth, let us follow Jesus’ lead as he reveals himself to us, saying, “I am the Light of the World.” Amen.

TIME OF DEDICATION    Thank you for sharing your gifts with God’s world through your church.
Jesus, the Light of the world, in You there is no darkness. You show us who You are and who we are created to be in the image of God. Where you lead your church by your Spirit, may we share your warmth and grace with our neighbors. Bless the tithes and offerings we give today. Let our lives be an offering. Amen.

SPECIAL MUSIC    I’ll Fly Away            by Alex Frissell, guitar, on video

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” Then the Pharisees said to him, “You are testifying on your own behalf; your testimony is not valid.” Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid because I know where I have come from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. You judge by human standards; I judge no one. Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is valid; for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me. In your law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is valid. I testify on my own behalf, and the Father who sent me testifies on my behalf.” Then they said to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” He spoke these words while he was teaching in the treasury of the temple, but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
