Sunday, Sept 27. Worship Service. Parking lot, Sanctuary & Online_FINISHED

This week we celebrate United Methodist Women Sunday.
Most of the liturgy for this service is a product of Lodi United Methodist Women’s collaboration.

This week’s phrase of the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy Will Be Done”, will be reflected on with a 3-minute sermon by Pastor Peace

Our 8AM service will be in the parking lot, and the 10AM service in the sanctuary.
Our services will continue to be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/LodiUMC.

Please observe Sunday as the day of worship wherever you are.

OPENING LITANY
Sometimes we are anxious, God. We long for your peace.
God, grant us wisdom.
God, we ask that we might have the serenity of Jesus when he was in the temple, knowing that he was in his father’s house.
God, grant us wisdom.
God, we know that we must trust in you, even when it is difficult. Let us practice acceptance.
And God, we also ask for courage, knowing that we will be called to act.
God, grant us wisdom.
May we learn to live in the power of your Spirit, ready to work for justice; ready to put faith, hope, and love into action.
Constant God, you who never change, morning through night, season upon season, from time before and forever after, help us who are always being called to be transformed and become more like you. Help us to be infused with your light so that we can be points of light in and for this world. Amen.

SONG OF PRAISE    God Will Take Care of You (United Methodist Hymnal #130)
1 Be not dismayed whate’er betide, God will take care of you;
Beneath his wings of love abide, God will take care of you.
Refrain God will take care of you, through ev’ry day, o’er all the way;
He will take care of you, God will take care of you.
2 Through days of toil when heart does fail, God will take care of you;
When dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you. Refrain
3 All you may need he will provide, God will take care of you;
Nothing you ask will be denied, God will take care of you. Refrain
4 No matter what may be the test, God will take care of you;
Lean, weary one, upon his breast, God will take care of you. Refrain

REFLECTION ON THE LORD’S PRAYER “Thy Will Be Done On Earth As Is In Heaven.”

I cannot say ‘Our’ if I live only for myself.
I cannot say ‘Father’ if I do not endeavor each day to act like His child.
I cannot say ‘who art in heaven’ if my attention is focused only on earthly things.
I cannot say ‘hallowed be Thy name’ if I am not striving for holiness.
I cannot say ‘Thy kingdom come’ if I don’t accept the righteous reign of God.
I cannot say ‘Thy will be done’ if I am disobedient to His Word.
I cannot say ‘on earth as it is in heaven’ if I do not serve Him here and now.
I cannot say ‘give us this day our daily bread’ if I am dishonest or if I ignore the genuine needs of the poor and the hungry.
I cannot say ‘forgive us our trespasses’ if I harbor a grudge against anyone.
I cannot say ‘lead us not into temptation’ if I deliberately place myself in its path.
I cannot say ‘deliver us from evil’ if I am not prepared to take a stand against injustice in my society.
Lord, I cannot say ‘Thine is the kingdom’ if I do not submit to You as the ruler of my life.
I cannot attribute to You ‘the power’ if I fail to trust You to act in my life.
I cannot ascribe to You ‘the glory’ if I in pride seek my own glory.
And I cannot say ‘forever’ if the horizon of my life is bounded completely by time.
Help me, Lord, to say the prayer you taught us and mean it in my life.

SCRIPTURE READING
Proverbs 3:5-8 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body.

John 14:23-27 Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me. I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.”

MESSAGE    Finding Peace in an Anxious World – Laura Pfeffer
Today’s message uses the well-known Serenity Prayer to reflect on the ways in which we can find peace in an anxious world. Let us say the prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

SONG OF SENDING FORTH It Is Well with My Soul (United Methodist Hymnal #377)
1 When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.

Refrain) It is well with my soul, it is well, it is well with my soul.

2 Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control,
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and hath shed his own blood for my soul. Refrain

3 My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! Refrain

4 And, Lord, hast the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain
